How tech activists are keeping Iranians connected during blackouts.

Second Breath (Nafas-e Dovom) is the audio version of prison memoirs by Mojgan Eilanloo, written over the course of more than two years and now released as a podcast. The book is approximately 350 pages long and structured in three chapters. The first chapter recounts forty days of solitary confinement in Ward 2-A of the IRGC. The second chapter documents her transfer to Qarchak Prison at the height of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, during a time when the prison had never witnessed such an overwhelming number of detainees. The third chapter reflects on life, womanhood, and imprisonment in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, alongside some of the most prominent female political activists, representing diverse and sometimes opposing ideological perspectives. Mojgan Eilanloo releases one audio episode from the book each week, on Fridays. “Second Breath” is a term used in track and field. When a runner reaches exhaustion and feels unable to continue, a second breath can rise from deep within the chest, restoring energy and making it possible to reach the finish line. The author uses this concept as a metaphor for endurance and continuation, describing the presence, companionship, and support of listeners as a vital source of strength—much like the cheers of spectators that help a runner keep going.
